For the third year in a row, the National Hockey League Columbus Blue Jackets have partnered with Studio Tiga to develop the team’s 2012-2013 Interactive Media Guide. It’s the quintessential sports-information resource for sportscasters, reporters, bloggers and fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This season, the Blue Jackets have published their 2012-2013 media guide as a printed document, and as an interactive digital media guide that’s now available at http://studiotiga.net/CBJ2013/index.html. Studio Tiga is proud to have designed and implemented the website guide and to have created Blue Jacket mobile apps for the Apple iPad and iPhone, and Android devices. 

What are the benefits and reaction to the new interactive guide? We asked Todd Sharrock, VP of Communications & Team Services for the Columbus Blue Jackets. But first, a little background on Todd.

Todd’s been with the Blue Jackets for 13 years. He oversees communications and team services for the hockey club and over the years has also been heavily involved in its community relations, web operations and social media efforts.

ST: What were your reasons for going with an interactive media guide?

TS: There were several factors that went into our decision. Getting our information to the most people in the easiest format possible was a priority. Second, the Columbus Blue Jackets consider this an environmentally responsible alternative and it supports our organization’s sustainability initiatives. Third, this is the wave of the future. People are doing everything on their phones, tablets and personal computers, so it is important for us to stay ahead of the curve. It has also been cost-effective for our organization. 

ST: What was the response from the media?

TS: Overall, very positive. Most everyone recognizes this is the way of the future.  Members of the media access content in different ways. Our goal is to provide the content that serves their needs in the best possible way. While we still print a very small quantity of media guides, this format is fast becoming the new norm. We recognize that, and so have the majority of the media who cover us on a regular basis.

ST: What about your fans? Have they picked up on the new interactive media guide?

TS: Absolutely! By producing our media guide digitally, anyone who’s interested in the Columbus Blue Jackets can access all the information they want, whenever they want and wherever they want via their PC, tablet or mobile phone.   

 

About the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets are a professional ice hockey team based in Columbus, Ohio. They have been members of the Central Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League since 2000. In 2013-14, the club will move to the Eastern Conference and play in Division D with the New Jersey Devils, the New York Rangers, the New York Islanders, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Washington Capitals.
